Brightening Up My Summer*

I’m absolutely rubbish at dressing for summer; because most of my clothes are black. Or very dark. So this year I’ve been trying really hard to brighten up up my look for the summer months and it’s been making me feel super happy!! Here’s what I’ve bought (so far!)

Embroidered backpack – I picked up this beautiful bag from Accessorize because I was dying to have a little backpack for the summer. I’m gutted that I didn’t pick it up when it was in the sale though as it set me back nearly £30! Oops. I love the combination of the stripes and the gorgeous colourful embroidered flowers on it. It’s plenty big enough to fit my purse, keys, phone, sunglasses (and the case), my headphones (and the case), some suncream and all those makeup essentials!! I’ve started using this all the time now and it’ll be perfect for all those sunny beach or adventure days 🙂

Socks – Okay, I know this one sounds a bit weird, but I’m rubbish at buying new socks and if I do buy any, they always seem to be black. I thought that I’d mix it up a bit this summer and go for splashes of colour which look super cute under cut-off jeans 🙂 I got a selection of really cute pastel socks from Charnos* 🙂 They have so many different styles to choose from; including trainer socks and knee highs! I’m also going to be wearing my white star trainers and my colourful Converse a lot more 🙂

Seashell top – I absolutely love this cute top that I got from Primark recently. Not only is it light and airy, and the seashells are just so cute, it only set me back a whole £2.50!! What an absolute bargain 🙂 Primark have some really cute summer tops in at the moment so it’s definitely worth checking them out.

Not only am I trying to brighten up my wardrobe this year, I’m also trying to brighten up my makeup as well. I have loads of bits that I’m hesitant to wear because it’s brighter than my usual “safe” colours”, but I think it’s time I give it a try and own those bright looks 🙂

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Palette – I bought this stunning palette last year and I think I’ve only used it once so far 🙁 I know the colours are pastel rather than bright, but a girl has to start somewhere and it’s still better than opting for my usual smoky or neutral eye look 🙂

Burt’s Bees lip crayon in Hawaiian Smolder – I usually stick to safe colours on my lips, but if I’m going to do this, I might as well do it properly! This is such a gorgeous vibrant shade of pink and I love it. I got last year at the Blogosphere Cover Reveal Party and I’ve only really just started to wear it!!

Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker™ Gloss Stick in Pink Punch – I got this lipstick in my Girl Gang goody bag from last year and I honestly thought it was going to be one of those makeup items I keep for ages, never use it and then give away to one of my friends. Then I actually tried it and I’m digging this colour completely!
