Mercure Hotel Review | Brighton*

A while ago, the lovely people at Mercure got in touch and asked if I fancied staying in their Brighton hotel with a plus one. Whilst I would have loved J to come with me, he wasn’t feeling up to it, so I knew that one of my best friends, Charlie, would be the perfect choice to come and check it out with me πŸ˜€

As she lives in London, we decided to make a day of it, shopping in Brighton first, before enjoying a complementary three course meal in the hotel’s restaurant, then relaxing in our room while doing some serious lazing around and TV watching!

After meeting Charlie at the train station and doing a little shopping, we headed down towards the hotel. The Mercure is a four star hotel situated on the seafront, opposite the bandstand in Hove, so it’s not exactly far from the centre of town πŸ™‚

Check in is from 2pm and we got there just after. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the lobby was absolutely stunning! I wanted all the chairs and the prints on the walls! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and showed us where the lift and stairs were.

We were given a beautiful spacious twin room up on the third floor.

I loved the Brighton theme throughout with this cute Hove actually cushion, a cupboard with the Brighton pavilion on it and some cute seaside themed prints on the wall.

The bathroom was just as beautiful with a massive smart mirror (perfect for those selfies), a huge walk-in shower and clean white tiles throughout.

They also supplied their own brand of shampoo, shower gel and body lotion! I only used the shampoo and shower gel but they smelt amazing and the shampoo left my hair feeling lovely πŸ™‚

The room also boasted gorgeous sea views, where we could see West Pier and the bandstand!

After taking all the photos, we headed back into town for an afternoon of shopping (see my August catch-up post to see what I bought). By the time we got back to the hotel for about 6.30, we were pretty knackered and incredibly hungry, although I did sneak into the bar for a quick photo!!

Once that was out of the way, we headed to the Goulty for dinner.

For quite a while, we were the only guests taking advantage of the restaurant so I was able to take photos undisturbed! The restaurant looked absolutely beautiful and we chose to sit overlooking the sea πŸ™‚

Charlie and I both went for a bottle of R Whites pear and elderflower lemonade which was so refreshing and lovely!

Choosing food was so hard because a lot of it sounded so delicious, but in the end I opted for the mussels in an onion and white wine cream sauce for starters. I’m really glad I picked it because they were incredible! There were also a lot more mussels than I anticipated for a starter, but I wasn’t complaining! Charlie decided to forgo the starter so she could save space for the main course!

For the main, I went for the Brighton Deli burger, with ground beef burger, peppered pastrami, tomato chutney and Sussex cheese in a brioche bun, with chunky chips on the side. I’ll be honest, it was okay but wasn’t really anything particularly special. I wish I’d gone for the asparagus, leek and potato bake instead. I did want the lobster tagliatelle but they were out 😭😭

Charlie went for the falafel and spinach burger with halloumi, salad, tomato relish in a brioche bun with a lime yoghurt and chunky chips on the side.

Even though we felt super full, there was still room for desert! We both went for the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream and it hit the spot perfectly!

I felt that dinner was reasonably priced and pretty much on par with prices you’d expect to pay in other restaurants in Brighton πŸ™‚

Once dinner was over, we rolled upstairs to our room and settled in for a wild evening of face masks and TV (we opted out of heading to the bar!)

I realised I forgot my earplugs as I was getting ready for bed but, actually, the hotel was really quiet! I could faintly hear people wandering round but it didn’t distract me from getting to sleep. I also couldn’t hear anything from the traffic outside, which was lovely πŸ™‚

Although my bed was a little too hard for my liking and the pillows were way too soft, I still managed to get a fairly decent night’s sleep πŸ˜€

In the morning, we took it in turns to use the massive shower (which was amazing and really easy to use)! After we were dressed, we wandered down to a different room for breakfast. Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos as there were a lot of guests there already, but I did get photos of the food on offer!

There were massive bowls filled with cereals, fruit and granola and little trays of pastries. They also had massive self service trays which were filled with cooked breakfast foods (eggs, beans, mushrooms, bacon etc)

I went for some mushrooms, sausages, beans and an egg. The food wasn’t particularly fresh and definitely had that “been out for a while” feel to it, but it was edible and filled a hole.

The little pastries were amazing though and I tucked into a few of those. I also got a smoothie shot which was delicious!

After breakfast, we wandered back up to the room to pack as Charlie had to leave to catch a train (check out is usually by 12pm).

We had a really lovely stay, I was really impressed by the decor and how quiet the hotel was. I’d definitely recommend anyone planning a trip to Brighton to check out the Mercure πŸ™‚

  1. Meecure Hotels are my absolute favourite! If I go on holiday and there’s one of these in the city I’ll likely stay there haha they are the best!

  2. I keep saying I need to visit Brighton! If only because I loved the TV show Sugar Rush… but I still haven’t. This hotel would be ideal for me as I do love a sea view, and I love the cute beachy themed decor they have in the room.

      1. It ended on a cliff hanger unfortunately because C4 cancelled it. πŸ™ I’ve met the actress who played Saint in S2 and she told me they cancelled it in favour of Big Brother! 😒 I loved that show.
