It’s been quite a while since I posted an update about my personal training journey. I wrote updates after 3 months and 6 months but forgot to do a 9 month update (oops), so this is my update one year on (although it’s it’s been just over a year since I started PT).
At the end of December last year, my year of free personal training came to an end and unfortunately, due to a change in circumstances, I haven’t been able to carry on going (I had to cancel my gym membership too ☹️)
That being said, I’m still managing to maintain my weight and I’m still staying active during the day by going out for walks at lunchtimes.
My current weight:
At the beginning of 2019, before I started personal training, my weight was 12st 2lbs. I now weigh 10st 1lbs which is a 2st 1lb loss over the course of a year (although this can fluctuate up to about 10st 5lbs). I don’t keep track of my calories anymore but I’m definitely more conscious of making smaller portions, cooking relatively healthy meals and trying to snack less.
My current measurements:
- Arms: 11.5″ (0.5″ gain from my 6 month update)
- Chest: 37.5″ (0.5″ loss from my 6 month update)
- Waist: 29.5″ (0.5″ gain from my 6 month update)
- Hips: 37.5″ (0.5″ loss from my 6 month update)
- Thighs: 21″ (0.5″ loss from my 6 month update)
As you can see, my progress has slowed right down with regards to my body size; in some areas I’ve lost half an inch, while in others I’ve gained half an inch. As I’ve not been working out or being super strict with my food intake, I’m pretty pleased that I’ve not changed much since my 6 month update 🙂
My current photos:
I was really excited to progress with my deadlifting. My goal was to be able to deadlift my own weight (around the 6 month mark that was about 67kg). I got up to being able to deadlift 60kg but ended up having to stop because of a health problem that I only discovered I had towards the end of September 🙁
I was told by a physio that I couldn’t use heavy weights or do squats so I had to stop deadlifting, hip thrusts and box squats which were three of my favourite exercises 🙁 Luckily Aaron was really supportive and was able to switch me over to some lighter exercises but, I didn’t really find them as enjoyable because I felt like I wasn’t progressing much.
I started doing seated shoulder presses again (14kg)
There were lots of lunges with light weights (6kg). I bloody hate lunges 🤣🤣
I quite liked the lying leg curls! It felt so weird to start with as I kept thinking I was going to kick myself in the ass, but I soon got the hang of it!
I also got to use the ab bench, which I also found weird, I thought I was going to fall over lol
Apart from the last 3 months when the physio ruined all my fun, I honestly really enjoyed my year of personal training. I absolutely loved weight training and I was actually pretty good at it! Aaron was a great trainer; he was really encouraging, he pushed me when I needed it and knew when I’d reached my limits. He also gave me some exercises to follow when I was training on my own 🙂
If you’re looking for a personal trainer in Sussex (he’s based at South Coast Gym in Lancing), I’d honestly really recommend him because he’s not only a professional, he’s a really lovely guy and made training seem fun and easy 🙂 He has an Instagram page; @green_machine_training 💪💪
Are you a fan of the gym? What’s your favourite kind of exercise to do? Would you ever consider a personal trainer? Let me know in the comments below 🙂 xx
*I won this opportunity in a giveaway but was not obligated to post about it on my blog.
I really do commend you because this is what I’m currently aspiring to do.
I actually enjoy the gym, but I can seem to continue for long periods of time.
Home workouts suck for me too.
Do you have any tips on maintaining motivation to go to the gym? Because I’m only motivated when its about to be summer. hahhahaha
Thank you 🙂 Unfortunately I’m not able to go to the gym anymore so I don’t really have any tips on staying motivated to go x
Wow this is awesome! You have done so well! Congratulations!
Thank you so much 🙂
You look amazing Holly! You should be proud of what you’ve achieved with your fitness / weight loss journey. I used to use hand weights with squats and lunges but it’s been so long since I did any kind of weight training. My go-to exercises at the moment are walking, hiking and yoga; but I know I need some strength training in there to mix it up a bit.
Thank you so much! I really want to get back into yoga, especially as I’m spending so much time at home! Hiking sounds fun, where do you go? X
We usually go around the Brecon Beacons area or near the Forest of Dean. But that’s not possible at the moment with lockdown but there are plenty of nice walks locally. I want to try the Cotswold Way at some point too. x
Oh I bet it’s absolutely lovely there!! I’m glad you still have nice places to walk xx
Great posts and thanks for being inspiring for exercises!
You’re welcome 🙂 Thanks for reading!
You have done so well and should be soo proud!! I love the progress and you finding what you enjoy ☺️I do miss the gym but have been loving running outside more! Good luck with your progress! Xx

Thank you so much 🙂 xx
You look amazing! Well done, this was an inspirational journey as I too would like to tone up and get fitter but just starting at the moment feels so difficult. I really need to get myself into gear!
Thank you! Yeah, the starting part is definitely the hardest bit, I nearly turned the opportunity down because I was scared but I’m so glad I did it! You can do this too 😘
This definitely motivated me to keep on going with my exercising journey ! You look great! You’ve got alot of motivation so keep on going! x
Thank you 😘 I can’t wait to get back to the gym one day! Good luck with your exercise journey xx
That is some serious exercising, but I love that you stuck through it and achieved the results you were after, as well as sharing your videos! Staying the same size afterwards is a rewarding experience; often dedication and patience are key to happy results. 🙂
Thank you so much! I’m really proud that I managed to keep it up for a whole year 🙂 x
So proud of you for what you’ve achieved! You’re an amazing human!
Love, Amie ❤

Two stone? TWO STONE? Wow, you should be chuffed to bits, that’s amazing, Holly, really well done! I hope whatever the underlying health issue is, it’s not too serious though. Thank you for such a motivating and inspiring post, Holly, stay safe xx

Thanks Ellie 🙂 Ahaha, I did start off really slowly and worked my way up though xx
I think you’ve done amazingly. You should be so proud. I really have a bit of weight to lose – 2 stone would be a dream for me! I started using Holly Dolke on YouTube and joined her membership programme in January. She does some fab HIIT workouts and I’m really enjoying it. I just wish I could see results quicker! xxx
Thank you so much Jenny! Oooh, I might have to check her out, thanks for the tip! Ah yeah, it’s really shit when it’s really slow progress isn’t it but at least it’s a healthy way of doing it 🙂 xxx
Wow! It sounds like you have been on an incredible fitness journey, losing 2 stone is so impressive! You look amazing, Holly! I have also been working out with weights recently, it’s such a good way to tone up and feel stronger 🙂 Your story is really inspirational, thank you for the motivation! <3 xx
