Steinbeck And Shaw | Brighton*

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the soft launch of their lastest cocktail bar in Brighton. Located at the bottom of West Street and attached to PRYZM, it honestly feels a million miles away from the usual connotations of “just another West Street bar”. For those of you not from Brighton, think of that one street in your town where you never want to go down at night because it’s full of clubbers, people throwing up and girls dropping chips all over the floor while trying to pull their knickers out of their bums. Just sayin’.

To be honest, I’ve never ventured into PRYZM, it’s not really my thing, but I can tell you right now, Steinbeck and Shaw definitely is. With its trendy Shoreditch feel and the unique dΓ©cor; including a red carousel horse on top of a paint-splattered piano and a graffiti skull on the wall, the bar is an Instagrammer’s absolute dream.

Steinbeck and Shaw, I found out, is named after John Steinbeck and George Bernard Shaw, which becomes apparent when you really pay attention to your surroundings. The sofas are all artistically graffitied with words taken from works by both the authors, including; Pygmalion and The Red Pony.

Damian, the awesome venue manager, very kindly took me on a tour of the bar. While looking around, he told me a little about the offerings in the bar; there are dedicated phone and laptop charging points round all the tables, complete with USB ports too, and the TVs dotted around the room play BT Sports during the day.

Β There’s an outside terrace/smoking area and even a small food menu available including popcorn and pizza!!

As a dedicated cocktail bar, the bar staff all get proper training so that the cocktails are professionally made and always look incredible. They all have a distinct uniform; the mean wear black trousers and black tops with a red horse logo and the women wear leather skirts, a strappy top with a skull on the side and have red roses painted on some part of their body at the start of every shift (I kid you not!)

Very sadly I wasn’t able to try any of the cocktails as I was off to pole fitness later that evening, but the staff very kindly supplied me with a gorgeous selection to photograph. I did get a delicious mocktail to sip though (and a cheeky pizza complete with skull bib!) πŸ™‚

Steinbeck and Shaw offer a happy “hour” with 50% off all drinks every evening from 5pm – 10pm!! With cocktails starting from as little as Β£7, this is such a fantastic offer πŸ˜€Β β™₯

First up was the CafΓ© Latte; a delicious smelling drink with Baileys, Tia Maria and milk in it πŸ™‚

Next up was the classic Pornstar Martini, although sadly it wasn’t on fire πŸ™

I loved the smell of the Peach and Passionfruit Margarita πŸ™‚

The Bramble looked really sweet and is made from Bloom London gin, blackberry liqueur, Funkin lemon juice and sugar syrup!

The Strawberry Daiquiri comes in this cute little milkshake glass β™₯

I was so tempted by their Rookie Cookie Hardshake which is made with Baileys, Kahlua, Oreo cookies and chocolate syrup blended with milk and cream! Yummy!

I think this one was my absolute favourite though; The Shades Of Disco. Not only is is presented beautifully; complete with tiny colour chart, but it tastes divine too! (Yeah okay, I had a tiny sip of Tania’s!) It reminded me of Haribo sour cherries so I wasn’t surprised to find it’s made from Absolut cherry, Licor 43, cranberry juice and strawberry purΓ©e and topped with Ting.

Once Sammy and Tania had arrived, Damian took us through a walkway which leads to a tiki-themed club called Lua LaLai β™₯

There are various booths dotted around the club and a resident DJ who starts up about 10pm with a more casual set. The bar has its own unique cocktails on offer and I loved the tiki glasses and the treasure chest complete with leis, fruit and mini swords!!

You can enter the club from the bar (and go back and forth with a stamp) but clubbers can’t get through into the bar, which I think’s a great idea, as the places have very different vibes to them and I’m not sure I’d want exciteable clubbers wandering into my chilled bar vibe!

Have you been to a Steinbeck and Shaw bar before? If not, do you love the look of this one? Let me know in the comments below πŸ™‚ x

*I was invited by the venue to review but all views, and love of pretty cocktails are my own.
