Smashbox Metallic Liquid Lipsticks*

Do you remember in my last Smashbox post where I said there was a going to be an exciting new launch but it had been delayed? Well I can announce, if you haven’t seen it already, that it’s finally here!! Yup, Smashbox have now brought out a new range of their Be Legendary Lipsticks, but this time, it’s a metals collection. A couple of weeks ago, I went along with Aine and Ali to Boots in Brighton to have a play with the gorgeous new shades. To celebrate the fact that Smashbox now has a new Lip Editor In Chief, Vlada, they’ve designed a new range of eight metallic and eight pigment liquid lipstick shades. Vlada is no stranger to the world of lip products as her Instagram account is full of stunning looks that she creates herself and has over 720,000 followers! I’d definitely recommend checking out her page which you can find here.

The metal shades all have awesome names and are called: Space Case (silver), Petal Metal (rose gold), Crimson Chrome (dark red), Haterade (pinky orange), Mauve Squad (pinky brown), Foiled Brat (the purple), Moscow Muled (orange) and Iced Out (blue). I think that Space Case and Foiled Brat were definitely my favourites!

*by the way, there’s a teeny tiny chance that the swatches below aren’t entirely in that order as I forgot to write down what I was swatching on my arm! Oops. Plus there were also some of the pigments collection there as well so it’s entirely possible I’ve accidentally swatched one of those instead #professionalbeautyblogger :D*

We all got to try out the lipsticks and had the chance to create some fun looks using all the Smashbox products along with copious amounts of glitter and gems ♥ I had such a fun time creating this look using Iced Out and Foiled Brat and then sticking little bits of glitter over them. It’s definitely a lot hard to create something like this than it looks!

I’ve learnt that I don’t have the patience to create looks like these as I can’t be bothered to carefully make sure every part of my lips is covered properly in glitter!! I also found that while creating this look, I wasn’t able to close my mouth at all as I didn’t want the colours to blend on my lips! That led to some fun moments trying to swallow with my mouth open 😀

Although the colours are stunning, I found that they’re definitely more of a glossy finish than I was expecting. I’m not a massive fan of gloss and I found that the colours did start coming off quite quickly. I wish I’d tried out the Instamatte with them now to see if they still looked metallic when matte.

The new metals collection (and the pigment collection) are available in the UK now, but at £19 each (and even though they do look absolutely stunning), I’m not sure I’d want to spend that much money on one lipstick. Especially as a lot of cheaper brands are now bringing out their own metallic liquid lipsticks.

I want to say a massive thank you to all the lovely Smashbox ladies for letting us try out all the makeup!! ♥

Are you a fan of the metallic lip look? Who are your fave metallic lipstick brands? Let me know in the comments below 🙂 x

  1. These look really interesting and I love the promo images Smashbox have come out with for them. Metalic lips aren’t my thing, but I can appreciate then on others. I was in Birmingham yesterday and got to swatch the pigments collection, which are more my cup of tea. Xx
