Shine Hair Event | Brighton*

Nestled in a part of Brighton I’ve never really ventured before (Gloucester Road) is Shine; a hair salon with added nail bar and massage treatments.  I was invited to check them out because Jonathan, the salon owner, has just brought out a gorgeous shampoo bar.  (Not like an alcohol bar. Don’t get those two confused.)

I also met a few bloggers there I’d only ever chatted to on Twitter so it was lovely to finally meet them!  And there were some familiar faces too 🙂

We were treated to a masterclass on how to do the two biggest hair styles for autumn/winter; the easy braid and the wet look.

The rope braid looks elegant and it’s really easy to do.  It took Steve, our hair guru for the evening, all of about 5 minutes to achieve this!  But then he is a guru!  I can’t wait to try this out for myself!

The wet look is something I struggle with. I think it looks good on other people, but I always feel that looks like I haven’t washed my hair in about 5 days.  Gross.

However, if you want to try this at home, this simple but effective look can be achieved by sprinkling Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion (or any other volumising powder) into the roots to create that volume.  Then add a small amount of serum on to your hands and gently smooth it over the top of your hair to give it that gorgeous shine.  Remember, less is more when you’re starting out!  You can add but you can’t take away!

I was even treated to a lovely hand massage and shown how to put my hair up in a gorgeous messy bun just by using bobby pins; another 5 minute style!  I absolutely loved it ♥

I had a lovely time at Shine; thanks to everyone for having us and the lovely Lisa for inviting me!

I was also given one of their goody bags with the shampoo bar inside which smells incredible!  It’s a lemon and ginger bar, it’s not been tested on animals and the packaging is bio-degradable!  It’s designed for shorter hair styles so I may give it to J.  I also got some Aveda hair goodies too 🙂

If you want to try the Shine shampoo bar for yourself, you can pick one up here.

Are you a hair style wizard or are you more like me and just whack it up in a ponytail?  Let me know in the comments below 🙂 x

  1. These look great! I’m forever watching videos on how to do this stuff, but I never seem to be able to recreate them on myself. I wish I could create something as fabulous!

  2. Aah, so sad I didn’t come to this it looked fab! I’ve tried shampoo bars before from Lush, I think they are great although I was never sure what to do with them once they are wet, maybe get a little bowl to put on the side of the bath or something? Did they suggest what to do?
