My Updated Blogging Set-Up

Back in March last year, I shared my rather pitiful blogging setup which included a teeny tiny spot on the sofa in our lounge to sit and write posts. My photos were all taken on top of our laundry basket in the bathroom, using an old marble tile J had left over from tiling the wall. Keeping it classy! I’ve come a long way since then, and so has my blog, so I thought I’d share my current set-up with you πŸ™‚

I now have a dedicated space on the dining room table where I have my (and when I say my, I actually mean J’s) laptop which is connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Oh and a rather nice fancy chair too! It doesn’t look particularly “bloggerish” (think white with copper and rose gold accessories, lots of prints and plants) but then we’ve not decorated the dining room yet.

The way I take my pics has also changed too. Last year for my birthday, a massive parcel arrived from J and I had no idea what it was! I hadn’t asked for anything specific but he loves to surprise me!! It turns out he’d bought me a massive soft box portable studio complete with lights and different colour back-drops β™₯ To be honest, I didn’t really get on with using it with the lights, so I just use the box with the backdrop. I also put a couple of sheets of paper underneath as the table kept showing through!!

I use this all the time now to take photos for the blog and it sits at the other end of our dining table (but luckily it folds away for easy storage).

I thought I’d also share some of my favourite blog props with you as well.

Homeware bits – J bought this gorgeous “LOVE” trinket dish for me from Homebird Boutique, it’s fab for putting in photos and balancing make up on top of πŸ™‚ I also love using the Zoella reed diffuser in the background of pics as well. I think it looks pretty awesome πŸ™‚

Lighting – I have a few things that light up to pop in blog photos. I snapped up these cute little Primark copper heart lights the day after the Girl Gang Event last year. I went shopping in Manchester with Fiona and as soon as I saw these, I knew I had to have them πŸ™‚ I love putting them in the background so they look blurry, it makes the photos look warm πŸ™‚ I bought the A5 light box in New Look last year as I thought it would look pretty cool in photos; luckily for me I was right! The LED wooden H came from Jemma in last year’s Christmas blogger swap. It’s so cute and fab to put in the background, I don’t even have to get the whole thing in either πŸ™‚

Cat purse – This lil cutie came from H&M and looks fab in those random pics you need for blog posts that have no relevance to the photo! Please tell me other people do that, right?

Confetti – For my birthday last year Jemma sent me a birthday card with all these stars in it. I was annoyed at first as they went everywhere, but I soon realised I could use them in my photos! Now I have a new look blog, I figured it was time to update the confetti, so I bought the gold and purple circles from Paperchase. They also have flamingos in the pack too, but I didn’t want them in my pics πŸ˜›

Magazines – The Blogosphere magazines make brilliant props as you can have them in the foreground or background and even use them to lay products on πŸ™‚

Beauty products – Because who doesn’t use random bits of makeup and beauty products as blog props? Especially if they look super pretty like Zoella’s Let’s Spritz body spray, the Sleek Highlighter palette, these gorgeous Superdrug layering lab mists or a variety of liquid lipsticks!

    1. Thank you lovely, I’m lucky that I’m using old things that J doesn’t use any more, but you’re right, you don’t need really expensive stuff to blog πŸ™‚ xx

  1. I wish I had a blogging set-up! I just blog from my sofa – as our office belongs to my fiance (until it’s turned into a nursery) and trying to set up a desk in our dining room would be a disaster as our cat has the run of downstairs and just loves jumping on my laptop, knocking over everything! Haha. Love your set-up though, and you’ve given me some great inspo for blog props πŸ™‚

    1. I used to blog on the sofa until I commandeered the dining room table lol (I also have to contend with a cat jumping on things!) x

  2. I need a proper set up designated since I always have to keep setting up and grabbing props whenever I wanna take photos which just slows down the whole process!

    1. It’s a lovely feeling isn’t it? I can’t wait until we actually paint in there so I can get prints and shelves on the walls πŸ™‚ xx
