My Name Is Girl Book Review*

After reading Rosie’s recent post, “Coffee Table Books You Need In Your Life“, I realised that I don’t actually own any coffee table books. Mostly because we’ve only recently bought a coffee table, but it also kind of feels like a proper grown up thing to have in the house, and I wasn’t sure I was ready for that level of commitment to being an adult just yet.

But, I was recently contacted by Hardie Grant Publishers, because they know that I’m part of #TheGirlGang, and asked if I’d like a copy of one of their latest releases. So now I have my very first coffee table book in the form of My Name Is Girl, by Nina Cosford.

My Name is Girl shows the uncut, unfiltered and realistic reality of being a girl, complete with beautifully simplistic illustrations. Nina is a UK-based illustrator who has previously worked with Lena Dunham on her award-winning show, Girls.

It’s broken up into five very relatable chapters and this amusing and thought-provoking book starts off with what we’re like on the surface, what we’re like beneath the surface and ends with how to be a better girl!

It’s a book that I think we can all find ourselves nodding along to because they’re things that all girls have thought or done at some point in their lives.

I love the School Of Texting page because we’ve all over-analysed texts before, right? Does he like me more than a friend? Is she mad at me? Why have they put two kisses?!?

The Female Assault Course and the everyday challenges of being a girl; like running with boobs, that unexpected period and being told to smile when we just have resting bitch face!

The Changing Room Doom, because we’ve all had that struggle trying when on clothes in shops; it’s too tight, too short, too long or too blah!

The What I Wish I Did page and the What I Actually Did page definitely resonated with me as there are loads of things I want to do but usually end up scrolling Twitter with alarming regularity or sitting at home to edit blog photos (oops)

And those weird body hang-ups we all have but no one else can see what an earth we’re talking about!!

I absolutely loved this book and it’s something that you can easily dip in and out of. I’d highly recommend giving it a read and you can pick it up from Amazon for around Β£10.

Not only did I get myself a signed copy to keep on my coffee table, but I was also very kindly given a signed copy to give to one of you lucky lot, so to be in with a chance of winning your very own copy, you can enter my giveaway below πŸ™‚
