My Boots Summer Look Book*

To be honest, I’ve never been the kind of person who tries to stay ahead of the trends, but when Boots* challenged me to try out a makeup look based on the newest trends for the summer, I couldn’t resist!!

From the beginning, I knew I wanted something easy and subtle because I’m not into bold colours or glitter makeup! I knew I wanted a natural daytime makeup look that I could wear to a casual BBQ or to the beach without looking too full on. I also really wanted to create a look using only cruelty free products and luckily Boots has a large selection so it was actually incredibly easy πŸ™‚

So what did I use to create my look?

Base:

I decided not to go for any foundation because I wanted my summer freckles to show (plus foundation dries out my skin really badly) and I opted out of bronzer because quite honestly it terrifies me and I like being pale AF πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Instead, I decided to try out some of the skincare available from Boots. I went for the Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm (Β£7.99) to help create a radiant base for my skin. It’s a really light cream that smells amazing; it’s very floral. It works really quickly and definitely made my skin glow. It sinks in really fast and acts as a primer so you can put makeup on top if you wanted to. I was really impressed with this and I’m definitely going to be checking out more Botanics products! Just one word of warning though, this product contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)Β  which could increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun so you’ll need to wear sunscreen with this!

I also wanted to try out the Beauty Shield Vitamin C Pollution Prevention Serum (Β£19) from e.l.f. This vitamin C serum also contains vitamin E and pomegranate extract to brighten up skin tone and protect from the effects of pollution and other environmental aggressors! It’s a pretty runny serum, I’m more of a thick serum fan tbh, although it glides on pretty easily. It doesn’t have a scent and it’s a clear serum. I didn’t really see much of a difference to my skin brightness after wearing it so I wasn’t a massive fan πŸ™πŸ™

Eyes:

I obviously had to get something to fill my eyebrows in, otherwise I’d feel super naked, so I picked up this No7 Beautiful Eyebrow Sculpting Pencil (Β£8) in brown. The product is also available in blonde, black and grey. It has a pencil at one end and a little brush at the other end to keep the hairs looking neat and tidy! It’s easy to apply and the colour is incredibly close to the product I use already which I loved about it πŸ™‚

To make my eyes pop, I went for this No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara (Β£13) in black, but it also comes in brown. I’m really fussy when it comes to mascaras so I was a little dubious about a new one, especially from a brand I’ve not used for mascara before.

However, HOLY WOW do my lashes look incredibly long and amazing in this mascara?? It’s just under double the price I’d usually pay, but I’m definitely a convert. The wand was really easy to use and didn’t make my lashes look clumpy at all.

When it comes to eyeshadow, I don’t really like being too adventurous with colour (mostly because I’m shit at applying it and the more neutral the colours, the less you can see the mistakes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) so this Too Faced Natural eyeshadow palette (Β£34) was perfect for me!! The packaging is absolutely gorgeous and the shadows are stamped with lace patterns!

At Β£34, it’s definitely the most expensive palette I own (I know right??) but I love that it smells faintly like coconut (such a summer smell) because all the shadows have been infused with coconut butter!! The shadows give quite a bit of fall out but the colour pay off is amazing, even on Heaven!! I thought it wouldn’t show up that well, but it was obvious I was wearing eyeshadow just from the first sweep of the makeup brush!! The shadows are all velvety-soft and really lovely to blend!

The shadows from top to bottom, left to right are:

  • Heaven, Cashmere Bunny, Sexpresso.
  • Silk Teddy, Push-Up, Erotica.
  • Strip Poker, Honey Pot and Chocolate Martini.

I’m wearing Heaven as a base and on the inner corners, Sexpresso on the outer corners and blended into the crease and a little bit of Push-up patted onto the middle of my lid. I’ve also got some Chocolate Martini on the lower lash line.

Lips:

As we all know, I love a matte lip, so I knew I had to try the e.l.f matte lip color (Β£4.50) which is a massive lip pencil!! As it’s a twist up design, you don’t need a sharpener, but they kindly included one in the base, just in case of mishaps!!

The lip pencil also contains vitamins A, C and E to help lips stay hydrated and moisturised!! It was really easy to apply and my lips definitely felt hydrated. I put it on and immediately drank a cup of coffee to check it’s wearability. There was quite a lot of colour left on the rim of the cup but still plenty of colour on my lips and I only required a little top up.

The only downside is, I chose the shade Natural which was a little too natural for my liking, I think it gave me a pretty washed out look (which luckily my camera didn’t pick up). I’m not sure I’d wear this shade again unless I mixed it with something else, but I’d definitely be interested in their other three shades (Praline, Scarlet Night and Tea Rose) πŸ™‚

Nails:

Finally, I really wanted to finish off my look with at least one pop of colour, as everything has been pretty neutral so far. I went for the Barry M Under The Sea nail paint (Β£3.99) in the shade Sea Turtle!! I love everything about this nail paint!! The brush was wide enough to cover my whole nail in one go which was brilliant and, apart from where I caught my nail on something, the nail varnish hasn’t chipped yet and I’ve been wearing it for days!! The colour is super pretty as it changes from blue to purple depending on the light πŸ™‚ I would say that 3 or 4 coats are needed though! I put on two and you can still see the tips of my nails underneath!

Boots also have a massive array of gorgeous summer perfumes as well so, if you’re like me and change your perfumes depending on the seasons, it’s definitely worth checking them out πŸ™‚

What products are you excited to use this summer? Do you tend to wear brighter colours? Let me know in the comments below πŸ™‚ x

  1. I love the No.7 mascara range! This is a great look on you; I usually go for blues or purples for eyeshadow and I’m pretty rubbish at applying it. πŸ˜…
