Meet Mr Bear

It’s not exactly a surprise that I absolutely love cats; especially Mr Bear (my cat). He’s been moaning for ages that he only appears very briefly on my blog or pops up on Insta stories so he persuaded me it was about time he had a blog post dedicated to him!!

Mr Bear was a birthday present (in 2012) from my old flatmates, and although my birthday was in the August, he wasn’t ready to go to his forever home until November! I drove all the way to Kent with one of my flatmates to pick him up. I didn’t know what he was going to look like or even if he was a boy or girl cat at that point. I just knew that the home the kittens lived in wasn’t the best, so one of my flatmate’s friend had chosen one of them for me and was holding on to him at her house. When we arrived, there was a tiny black and white ball of fluff jumping around the floor. He was absolutely beautiful β™₯ I was really happy he was a boy cat as I’ve always had them πŸ™‚

Although he was a black and white cat, as a baby, he had stunning grey stripes in his fur. We spent a couple of hours at the house playing with him and I finally decided on a name; Sirius Orion. Yup, not many people who know about Mr Bear today know that that’s his official name πŸ˜€

We popped him in the cat carrier and headed back to Brighton to begin life with his forever mummy! During the journey, we discovered that he was absolutely riddled with fleas and dirt, so as soon as I got home, I popped him in the sink and attempted to wash him. I’m pretty sure he’s never forgiven me for that!

He had the cutest ears and paws which were way too large for him but I’m pleased to say he’s now definitely grown into them πŸ™‚

He’s always loved curling up on my bed to sleepΒ β™₯

Although I loved having a kitten, I’ll be honest and say that for a long time I didn’t really enjoy the responsibilities that came with it. I wasn’t very good at training him and as I hated the house I lived in, I wanted to spend as little time there as possible, which led to a lot of tension with my flatmates. As soon as he was old enough though, I got him neutered (we had two other cats in the flat and one was an unneutered female) and microchipped because I am, at the very least, a responsible pet owner!

Luckily a few months later, I moved into another flat with only one of my old flatmates and life was a lot better. We ended up living in a flat on the third floor and my room had a balcony. I used to leave the window open so he could sit out on the balcony and enjoy the sunshine.

He absolutely loved it out there, but one horrific day, he managed to fall off πŸ™ We think he was chasing a bird and slipped. He fell to the ground floor and flung himself through next door’s open lounge window and hid under her bed! Thankfully, she also had cats so was able to quickly pop him in a basket! The owners of the ground floor flat in our block had seen something black and white rushing past their window so ran upstairs to ask if we’d lost our cat.

I rushed him to the vet and he’d broken his front right leg. I felt sick and so worried for him πŸ™ He had to live in cage for three months as he had a little kitty plaster cast on which was changed every week, except that he was a naughty Mr Bear and managed to lick it off every single week!! One of the vet nurses made this really cool cast for him though πŸ˜€ He’s absolutely fine now but he does limp when it’s cold :'(

He once delighted in standing on the lid of my blue hair dye, painted his foot blue and wandered round the flat, which had cream carpets!!

After J and I moved in together, Sirius somehow became known as Mr Squiffles, then SquifflyBear and finally just Mr Bear. He absolutely adores J and thinks he’s the best Daddy ever <3

He loves stealing Daddy’s side of the sofa and being a remote control hog!

He loves boxes and bags, even if they’re full or he can’t fit in them!

His favourite toy is his play tunnel; it’s hours of fun πŸ™‚

He thinks going outside is the best and loves exploring in the garden πŸ˜€

Cuddling under the duvet is one of his favourite things to do πŸ™‚

He gets so excited playing with the wrapping paper at Christmas πŸ˜€

Sometimes he makes ugly faces and sometimes he looks so handsome, but either way, he’s our baby Bear and we love him πŸ™‚ <3

We’ve got 2 cats, our latested only arrived a couple of weeks ago. Our 15 year old cat Mika died back in August, so we thought it was time to get Leo (a half Maine Coon) a new friend.

  7. He looks so much like my big cat, it’s uncanny! Except, mine is missing an eye (eye infection when he was little). I’ll have to DM you a picture on Twitter! Mine even has the subtle stripes too! Your guy is adorable. We just love our kitties too πŸ™‚
