Love Them Or Loathe Them | Part One

I’ve tried to cut down my make-up stash recently so I’ve gone through my products and tried them out to see if I still love them as much as I did when I bought them.  As it turns out there are a few products that I’m no longer fond of and a few forgotten products that I’m re-loving, so I thought I’d share 4 of each, can you guess which ones are in which category??

Love them:

NYX liquid lipsticks – I bought two of the Cannes because I really loved the shade, but I accidentally left one of them in an old handbag and put it away in my wardrobe a few months ago and couldn’t remember where it had gone; I didn’t want to use the new one while I knew the old one was still lying about somewhere!  While looking for something else recently, I found it and remembered why I love it so much.  The shade is absolutely gorgeous, it’s long-lasting and doesn’t dry my lips out at all 🙂  I bought the shade Monte Carlo as well and I can’t wait to start wearing that one again too <3

Smashbox mascara – I got this free ages ago when I bought the Ablaze palette and, because it’s super small, it got lost in my make-up bag for ages (are we seeing a theme here?).  I really love this mascara as it gives fantastic coverage, it doesn’t go clumpy at all and it makes my lashes look super long!!  It’s also really easy to take off too which is always a bonus 🙂

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation – This one makes me so, so happy.  I raved about this foundation in a blog post and it was working well for a good few months but suddenly, it didn’t seem to give me the same coverage and flawless skin look that it once did.  Instead it sank into any lines in my face and, despite moisturising and using primer, it really highlighted the dry patches of skin around my nose.  I used it recently for my brother’s wedding (because I couldn’t be arsed to go and buy a new foundation) and tried applying it to my face in very small amounts and building it up and it actually worked incredibly well!  I also used my Crownbrush sponge to apply it and not the brush which I think works a lot better for my face.  I’m really happy that I can now wear this foundation again because it wasn’t exactly cheap!!

Smashbox Ablaze Palette – This is my absolute favourite palette of all the ones I own.  Although, admittedly, there is a bit of fallout when using the product and I have managed to smash one of the shades, I adore this palette and how long-lasting the eyeshadows are, so I can look past the slight downsides!  I’m definitely keeping this palette out for autumn, because the shades are just perfect for autumnal looks 😀

Loathe them:

Sleek Matte Me lipsticks – When I first got these, I absolutely loved them as they seemed pretty great.  They go on fantastically and dry pretty fast, but now, after about half an hour, I start noticing that the lipstick starts to rub off and flake on my lips.  I mean, it’s not exactly a sexy look is it??

GOSH matte liquid lipsticks* –  After the disappointment of my Sleek lipsticks, I thought I’d turn my attention to my GOSH lipsticks as I’d not worn them for a while either.  Imagine my annoyance to find that these are also a bit shit.  I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve had them for about a year now or whether I just hadn’t worn them enough at the beginning to make a proper judgement, but the formula now feels super thick and sticky and it just doesn’t dry particularly well.  It’s really disappointing as I really loved the Nougat Fudge shade and wanted to wear this during the summer months but I couldn’t handle the consistency of it 🙁

Collection lasting perfection concealer– I really wanted to love this, because not only is it pretty cheap but everyone raves about it!!  Unfortunately it seems to really dry out my skin and I’m not sure the shade is right for my skin tone 🙁  Not only that but it bloody leaks everywhere; this is definitely going in the bin!!

W7 powder – This is something I won in a competition a while back and used it a couple of times and thought it was okay; however, on reusing it recently, mostly for the purpose of this blog post, I found that it just dries out my face and highlights any dry patches 🙁  Plus it’s meant to be a brightening powder but it just makes me look even pastier than I am already 😂😂😂😂  I definitely won’t be keeping this product around.

What products from your stash are you loving and loathing?  What do you regret buying and what’s your holy grail product?  Let me know in the comments below 🙂 x

  1. I am a big fan of the Collection concealer but I can see how you wouldn’t be if it dries your skin. I’ve tried one of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and I wasn’t overly fussed on that, I’m not a matte liquid lipstick girl I’ve discovered x

  2. So the Tarte foundation… I remembered your last review on it, so I was looking at maybe getting some (I’ve never really used foundation so I’m really going heavy on the reviews here) but I have combination skin that’s pretty dry round my nose, and being new to foundation I don’t think I have the skill set or patience to be applying it on slowly to figure out blending like you described here. Would you suggest I keep on with my search or do you think it’s worth a try?

    1. I’d say you should probably start with a cheaper foundation to get used to it and how it looks before spending £30 on one. See if you can get colour matched by someone at a counter and then say you’ll think about it. At least you’ll know what shade and tone to be looking for 🙂

  3. I love NYX liquid lipsticks too, and they are definitely a staple. I am surprised you didn’t like the collection concealer though; I love it and it is an amazing cheap go to for me! It just goes to show that not everything works for everyone. xx
