Revolution Fortune Favours the Brave Palette Review

So unless you’re Tim Peake and have been in space for the last six months, you’ll probably know that earlier this year, Makeup Revolution joined forces with Jane (aka British Beauty Blogger) and created the Fortune Favours the Brave palette.

I jumped all aboard the hype train and wandered down to my local Superdrug on the day of its release, and there, surrounded by children with their grubby mitts about to be all over it, sat MY palette, all on its own. The last one left on the shelf. So I reached over and yoinked it before anyone else even stood a chance. It was brutal. Not even sorry.

I met up with my mum for lunch and opened it while sat in Eat in Brighton. I kid you not, the lady on the next table saw it and gasped. She was so totally jealous! There were 30 stunning, beautiful pans of colour, mattes, shimmers and some marble effects. It was the stuff of dreams.

Everyone had been raving about it so I was excited to take it home and try it out. The brush that came with it was a little bit useless, but we’ll forgive that because HELLO GOLD AND WHITE MARBLE EYESHADOW <3 It’s almost like it was made with bloggers in mind. Lols.

On the arm, the swatches looked amazing, but when I tried to apply them using a different brush, none of the colours seemed particularly pigmented on my lids. So I tried again and proceeded to get loads of loose powder over my cheeks 🙁 (there’s a lot of fallout). Through the course of a few hours at most, the eyeshadow creased like hell and became patchy and faded. I was really disappointed because I’d had a slight Twitter disagreement with someone who said she hadn’t liked it much and I defended the palette, mostly because it’s so pretty. I now fear she was right and I was blinded by blogger hype 🙁

Having attempted to try using this several more times, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t really like using this palette. I kinda wish I’d bought another Sleek palette now 🙁 It would have been slightly cheaper and I’d be one step closer to owning the entire collection. #lifegoals

Have you tried this palette, what did you think? Have you ever been blinded by blogger hype when buying a product? Let me know in the comments below 🙂 x

  1. I use this palette regularly and it’s always been fine. The shadow stays put all day and still looks alright several hours on. It might be that it just really likes my primer.

  2. This sounds so disappointing 🙁 I have bought a Make-Up Revolution in the past and absolutely loved it. The pigmentation of the shadows in the palette I have are incredible. So sad to hear that this wasn’t the same as it looks gorgeous 🙂 Great post 🙂 x

    1. I bought a MUR palette ages ago and didn’t get on with that one either. I guess it’s just not the brand for me 😢 x

    1. I know some people who love it and some that dislike it, I definitely think it’s a personal preference. Might be worth seeing if Superdrug has one of those sample ones so you can test it out before you buy 🙂 x

  3. Finally an honest review,i’ve currently got a review on a well loved palette which i’ve found disappointing but unsure whether to publish it.You’ve just given me the courage too,it’s ok to be disappointed.

    1. I think sometimes bloggers don’t want to upset brands and I get that but that palette didn’t work for me, so I said as much but not in a completely negative way. Look forward to reading your review!

  4. This palette looks like an absolute dream but I am slightly pleased I passed it up when I made my recent Makeup Revolution order. A lot of the shades look similar and look very dark. Sorry to hear they don’t swatch and wear that great x

  5. Its great to get an honest review as it looks beautiful and is definitely something I would have picked up but if the pigmentation isn’t great I think I will stick to Sleek 🙂 xxx

  6. I saw this on Instagram and was very interested to try it out. The colors look gorgeous, and I don’t think I’ve seen some of them in other palettes before. Too bad the quality sucks! I was seriously considering picking this up from an online seller since we don’t have Makeup Revolution here, but you saved me from a bad purchase! Thank you!!!

    1. It is absolutely gorgeous. Also I find that I just don’t get on with MUR palettes but a lot of people do, it might just be me 😂😂 Weird eyelids or something x

    1. I hated writing something bad but I can’t not if it didn’t work for me. I guess that’s why people started not to trust bloggers if we say everything we buy/get given is awesome all the time. It is a shame but we can’t all like every product xx

  7. It does look so pretty in the photos I’ve seen, my local Superdrug hasn’t stocked this palette as it’s only a small store so I’ve not seen it in the flesh. Such a shame you didn’t like it but thank you for giving an honest opinion. I’ve got 3 MUR palettes and luckily I love them all.

  8. Oh, good to hear another view on this palette. I’ve read nothing but raves for it and it’s on my list of things to order! Too bad because it does look amazing in the pans and in swatches. But ultimately, it’s about its performance on the lids that really matter. Thanks for this!

  9. I was so disappointed by this palette, a few shades barley even swatched for me and the shimmery shades didn’t have enough pigment for my liking. I do use the matte Brown shades but apart from that I think it’s a total let down. Definitely not upto Makeup Revolution quality. Great post. Xx

      1. I was the same, i haven’t really seen any negative reviews. Even when I posted mine saying how disappointed I was, there were some comments saying they still wanted to buy it. Sometimes the hype does get the better of people!
