Back in November 2013, I was about to go on my first official date with J, so I popped to my local hairdresser to get my hair done! Talk about trying to make a good impression! She said she’d just bought a Curl Secret which was relatively new. I was really intrigued so I said I’d be her guinea pig and let her try it out on my hair!!
It was absolutely incredible!! She took a portion of my hair, put it in the groove, gently clamped the product together and the product sucked all the hair into the “ceramic curl chamber”. The Curl Secret beeped four times when it was ready to be unclamped. She then released it and I was left with a beautiful curl to my hair!!
There are three settings for soft waves, loose curls or tight curls and two different heat settings. It only took about 30 minutes to do all my hair and mine is quite thick and long.
Note: it’s only suitable to use on hair up to bust length and it’s not suitable for synthetic hair! (I can’t imagine the carnage of trying to sort that mess out!) It seems to be absolutely fine to use on coloured/bleached hair though.
I loved it so much that J bought me my own one for Christmas the following year 🙂
It definitely takes a bit of practice to be able to use this on your own hair, but it’s still relatively simple. There are even instructions on the product which tell you which side you have to keep facing towards your head. I got the hang of it really quickly and if you accidentally put too much hair into it, it will beep like crazy, you’ll panic like hell but it’s still really easy to be able to pull your hair of the device.
- First Impressions: I love the end result, I think the curls are so pretty and the Curl Secret alternates curl direction for a really natural look. The only downside is having to sit around for ages actually curling your hair, a heated roller set would probably give a similar end result and you can leave them in while doing other things like cleaning, blogging or watching tv!
- How did I get on?: I got the hang of it pretty quickly and the instructions on the Curl Secret are great at reminding me which way round I need to hold it.
- Value for money: It’s about £100+ so it is one of the pricier products on the market.
- Will I use it again?: I’ll probably use it for special occasions rather than every day use, but as I love how it looks, I’m sure I’ll be using it again 🙂
- Verdict: 4.5/5.

I have been tempted to try this. But I have seen varying reviews. Some look like it works really well and others show their hair being tangled in it. If it ever came a bit lower in price I think I would purchase one. Though love the post! 🙂
Or if you know anyone who has one, you could borrow theirs and try it out. I’m sure it’ll come down in price at some point x
I’ve used mine once and not again since! It took so long and the end result was really disappointing for me! My hair kept getting caught and I was petrified it would burn off!! I don’t know how you’ve managed to make yours look so pretty, It’s like we used two completely different products!
Oh no! Sorry you had such a bad experience with yours! I had a few mishaps with hair getting caught but the trick I learnt is to make sure you don’t have random stray bits from other strands caught up as well, that was my mistake! x
