Artbox Cafe x Pusheen | Brighton

A couple of weekends ago, my friend Rachael and I decided to check out the Brighton Artbox cafe, the UK’s first dedicated character themed cafe. The current theme is Pusheen which I think is staying until the end of October, before a new character comes along!

The Artbox cafe, situated in East Street, has a small shop on the ground floor, along with takeaway ice cream options.

There’s also a seating area upstairs (which unfortunately isn’t accessible for wheelchairs; however, there is one table downstairs for wheelchair users). The cafe is open from 12pm – 5pm every day except Thursdays. Just a word of warning though, you can’t pre-book tables. You have to pop into the cafe and the staff can offer a variety of available times for you to come back 🙂 Rachael went in just after 12 and we were offered a space at 12:45.

The shop downstairs is full of Pusheen merch, I was tempted by a tiny keyring until I saw they were £12!! Everything is pretty pricey in there!!

Once we got back to the cafe, we were shown to our seats pretty fast. The upstairs seating area is just as super cute as downstairs; all green and pink with Pusheen everywhere and the sweetest wall for Insta pics!!

We started off with drinks; Rachael going for an Early Grey tea which came in the cutest pastel teapot and a little Pusheen cup!

I went for a raspberry and sparkling elderflower cooler. Mine was a little sickly and a bit too sweet for my liking 🙁 but it did look pretty!

It was honestly so hard to decide because most of the sundaes sounded delicious, one even had a doughnut in it!! They also have waffles if you’d prefer 🙂

In the end though, I opted for the Pusheen x Artbox sundae; a grey vanilla ice cream, pink strawberry ice cream and white honeycomb ice cream with a pink and grey macaron and a couple of chocolate ice cream cones!

Rachael went for the Flower Garden Sundae; a lavender, rose and vanilla sundae with sugar flowers and heart sprinkles.

To be honest, although they looked absolutely incredible, we were both pretty underwhelmed by our sundaes. Although they were billed as ice cream and the cafe is an ice cream parlour, they were actually more like sorbet!! We also both found our sundaes to be a little bland and only my strawberry ice cream actually tasted like anything! At £9 a sundae, it was a little disappointing! I wish I’d gone for a waffle now 🙁

I definitely felt that we were paying more for the experience, which we both really enjoyed. I loved the colour scheme and how cute everything was!

I’m really glad we went though as we still had a lovely time but I don’t think I’d bother going again. In fact, I was still so hungry afterwards, I ended up getting some gyoza from Itsu and a halloumi wrap from Leon. Oops!!

Have you been to the Artbox cafe yet? Are you a fan of Pusheen? Let me know in the comments below 🙂 x

    1. Although it must cost a fortune to repaint and get all the bits and pieces for the new characters lol … I don’t know which character they had before we went into lockdown! xx

    1. I don’t think it’ll still be pusheen in January 😫 they change the themes regularly! Ah yeah, Brighton from Birmingham is such a mission xx

  1. It’s sad that there are so many places like this that pop up – look amazing for photos, but everything else is just bland, so you are only paying for the experience. I’ve got to say though – your ‘ice cream’ even looks like sorbet 🤷‍♀️

  2. Everything looks so cute but £9 for ice cream is crazy! 😮 If I do go I think I’d go by your recommendation of a waffle but jeeeez

  3. I completely missed the fact that yours had little ice cream cones in it!

Definitely no need to go back but as you said, glad we went. x
